Stephanie, of Steph's Stamping, Scrapping, and Stuff, tagged me today. I will do my best to post some new, little-known facts about me, and then to find 7 other bloggers to tag...that will be a definite challenge, since I'm not often cruising around online. I'll post this in my "about" page as well, since it probably ties in.
Some possibly less than well-known info about me:
1. When I was in grade 2 I wanted to be a teacher, so I stole all the scissors to take them home and play school with my little brother. My mom was beside herself, but my teacher was cool about it.
2.That same wonderful grade 2 teacher brought in her "best" (well, at the time I thought it was fine china, but it probably wasn't) tea set and our class had a tea party. We sampled different kinds of tea (probably all herbal) by drinking it through red licorice "straws" (you know, bite the ends off). That memory has stayed with me forever. She was the best teacher and inspired my love of teaching.
3. I was training to be a youth pastor, actually had a year of formal experience, and started getting my masters degree in youth and family ministry before a difficult reality set in.
4.When I was a youth pastor, my favorite aged student to work with was junior high (gasp). I loved that they interacted with ideas and conceptions, not just soak them up, but think about stuff and ask questions. When my little boy (or any future kids we have) grows up more I want to volunteer with the local boys and girls club in Fort Saskatchewan.
5. I am widely travelled. When I was in both High School and College I participated in 2 summer missions programs overseas through Royal Servants International. While we definitely did some valuable service overseas, the main event was the way it impacted me and my world-view. I was never more thankful for clean air and water, our homes and freedoms, then when we landed in Southern California, drove to Sara's home, and had a shower and dinner before flying on home.
6. I love forever. Many of my friends are not close in proximity, but not a day goes by when I don't think of them, wish them well, pray for them. Some of them are connected in some way to my summer missions programs (JT, Sara, Vay, Krista, Luthor), most of us aren't in a lot of contact, but I look forward to catching up with them over coffee, someday, when we're all grown up and past this terribly busy time of life.
7. My absolute favorite thing about being a mom is when my darling son says out of the blue, "I love you mommy". You just can't get that same jolt of emotion out of anything else. You know he means it- he's out of the parroting stage, and he's a pretty deep thinker.
